One Project Done

See the look of amazement on the raccoon's face...

It is because my back yard project is done...

Well, as done as it is going to get anyways. All of the plants will increase in size over the next two years, that will help fill in some of the emptiness. When I started this project I didn't have a clue what I wanted back there, I just knew it had be something else other than weeds and shredding weed barrier. Not bad for someone who was clueless.

Best part ... I don't have to mow it!!!!

Two steps forward, one step back

It may not look like it from these pictures but I am making progress on the two projects I'm currently working.

Saturday, Jayme and I went to the Auburn Home and Garden show. I want to know how those landscape company can set up fountains, waterfalls, patios, decks and a bazillion plants in a few days and it has taken me three weeks to get this far?

I met Robyn, a master gardener, at the show. I spent about 30 minutes talking to her about plants. You should have seen her eyes light up when I said I needed help selecting plants for my yard. It is the same look a quilter gets in a fabric shop with a large gift card. ;o) We walked around to a number of different landscape company's displays looking at and talking about plants. She had lots of great suggestions. I left the show and bought more plants. I really need to stop that or this project will never get done.

I'm also making progress on my mom's Mother's Day gift. She knows she is getting a table runner and placemats but she hasn't really seen the fabrics or the pattern.

I started quilting them on Saturday. Very simple in the ditch and straight line quilting so hopefully it won't take too long to finish up.

Unfortunately with all the time I've spent working on these two projects I am now five weeks behind on my civil war blocks. Oh well...hopefully both of my projects will get finished soon.

What do you think?

Do I have a good excuse for not finishing my back yard project this weekend?

This was my yard a 11:00 a.m. this morning. Rain, thunder, lightening, and pea size hail.

Those poor plants, I just planted them yesterday.

I think I need more drainage also. What do you think?

Interruptions

So I stopped working on my new project so I could start two new projects...not a very productive way to work. The biggest new project is this:

This is the side of my yard I never show...can you tell why? So embarrassing. Over the last two weekends I've pulled the black weed barrier up, and went to Home Depot, hacked all the weeds down, and went to Home Depot, trimmed those two large bushes back to almost nothing, and went to Home Depot, capped off six sprinklers and converted two to drip lines, and went to Home Depot.

It's getting there but I still have a lot of work to do. I just hope the temperatures don't go into the hundreds before I'm done. I still have to put the weed barrier back down, plant plants, string out drip lines, lay out pavers, spread out tan bark and go back to Home Depot.

The other project I started is my Mom's Mother's Day gift...even more embarrassing. Aren't I lucky that she loves me and accepted an IOU (LOL). I can't show it yet, but I really like how it is turning out, I think she will too.
